ITS European Congress is traditionally the largest European event dedicated to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). Organized by ERTICO – ITS Europe, this year´s event took place on 3-6 June 2019 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.  One of the city´s most famous landmarks – retrofuturistic Evoluon Congress Center hosted four days of parallel sessions devoted to seven aspects of intelligent mobility and digitalisation of transport under the theme “Fulfilling ITS Promises”:

  • Deploying new mobility services – from experiments to experience;
  • A breath of fresh air;
  • Connected, cooperative and automated mobility;
  • Enhancing the efficiency of freight transport;
  • Enablers of digital infrastructure;
  • Transport network Operations;
  • Disruption, start-ups & future workforce.

The congress programme was split into three main streams: Smart Cities, Automation and Mobility as a Service (MaaS), with sessions focusing on a different stream each day. Throughout the event, visitors could experience programme sessions with presentations of top ITS experts, demonstrations of innovative transport technologies deployed worldwide, and exhibitions of cutting-edge companies from the industry as well as 25 implementation visits.

Growing number of ITS startups and state-of-the-art technology demonstrations show the determination and drive of the expert community to deliver on fulfilling ITS promises. The demonstration site – Helmond Automotive Campus (HAC), a smart mobility living lab showcased 16 close-to-market ITS solutions.

As traditionally, ERAdiate was present at this event and the team was represented by Dr. Tibor Petrov. Dr. Petrov presented a paper about Vehicular-Ad-hoc-Network (VANET)-based emergency vehicle warning during the scientific session “Simulation, Modelling and AI”. The paper evaluated the performance of three ad hoc routing protocols in a Cooperative ITS environment for VANET-based emergency vehicle warning application. All available papers and presentations will be available online to the congress delegates in the form of electronic proceedings.

More information about the congress, as well as programme details can be found on the congress website.
