While sex robots capable of engaging in loving and sexual relationships with humans are not science fiction anymore, research on potential sexual applications of artificial intelligence, as well as on their social, legal and moral implications is still very limited.

Given the need for empirical research around this topic, the main goal of the international workshop “AI LOVE YOU“, which took place in Potsdam, Germany, on 8 December 2017, was to address the common future of human beings and robots. Empirical research on the emerging and controversial topic of intimate relationships between humans and artificial partners requires an interdisciplinary approach. Therefore, the event brought together participants with different backgrounds, including psychologists, philosophers, computer scientists, ethicists and clinicians.

ERAdiate was invited to contribute to the workshop by addressing the topics of cybersecurity and data privacy in the context of the Internet of Things, and discussing their impact on Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technologies and services (including autonomous vehicles and social robots). Indeed, autonomous vehicles are likely to be the first scenario of AI-based technology that will become part of our daily life. ERAdiate team member Martin Hudák gave a presentation he co-authored with Giuseppe Lugano (ERAdiate) and Peter Holečko (Faculty of Electrical Engineering) entitled “Social robots, Autonomous vehicles and the Internet of Things. Cyber-security and data privacy aspects”. Based on their workshop presentations, invited speakers have been invited to contribute to a book to be published later this year with Springer.
