SUMMARY:ERAdiate Lecture Series #3: Connected and Autonomous Driving
DESCRIPTION:ERAdiate Lecture Series: Connected and Autonomous Driving \n8 October 2018\,10am \nScientific Board Room\, Nová Menza \nABSTRACT \nDigitalisation has created the technological conditions for the development of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV). It will have impacts on safety and traffic management\, but also\, more widely\, on mobility behaviour\, the environment\, employment and social inclusion. The development CAV will\, in turn\, generate an increasing amount of data. This is providing greater quantities and quality of the data available for transport planning and management\, as well as for new features and services to transport users\, including innovative business models. \nVehicle platooning is part of a suite of features that CAVs might employ. A platoon is a group of vehicles that can travel very closely together\, safely at high speed. Each vehicle communicates with the other vehicles in the platoon. There is a lead vehicle that controls the speed and direction\, and all following vehicles (which have precisely matched braking and acceleration) respond to the lead vehicle’s movement. \nIn the first presentation Vehicular Communications for Platooning – platooning as an emergent vehicular application with collaboratively and co-ordinately controlled connected vehicles will be addressed. First\, the state-of-the of this technology will be explained and related recent R&D projects in Europe will be referred. Then\, the up-to-date ETSI ITS-G5 vehicular communications protocols concerned with the inter-vehicular information exchange for automatic control will be addressed. Finally\, performance evaluation results for Cooperative Awareness Messages triggering protocol which couples messages generation with vehicular mobility will be presented. \nSince two decades V2X (Vehicle to everything) communication is expected to progress driving safety and provide smarter and cleaner mobility. The driving environment in the first generation of automated driving vehicle will rely on internal sensors. However\, it is widely acknowledged that elaborating and maintaining thorough real time representation of the driving environment will require collecting significantly more information from connected devices. IoT is addressing the critical challenge to manage the virtual representation of the different driving environment actors\, in particular creating and maintaining their virtual representation in Cloud computing platform. \nIoT will provide a new V2X paradigm based on a standardised middleware to manage the automotive Big Data for the Cooperative Automated Mobility. In the second presentation – IoT pushing a new V2X paradigm for progressing Connected and Automated Driving – will demonstrate how the H2020 Innovation Action “AUTOPILOT” will progress automated driving with IoT. \nConnected and Autonomous Vehicles are expected to have an overall positive impact on our economy and society. It is anticipated that sectors like automotive\, electronics and software or freight transport will be positively affected while other sectors like insurance or maintenance and repair will face significant challenges. Important labour changes lie ahead for professional drivers\, decreasing driving tasks towards new more technical roles. Some of these jobs will disappear in the long-term. In the third presentation – An analysis of possible socio-economic effects of a Cooperative\, Connected and Automated Mobility(CCAM) in Europe – the discussion will focus on the possible effects of automated driving on the economy\, employment and skills and is integrated into the definition of an EU approach towards CCAM by strengthening the Commission’s understanding of the societal aspects linked to it. \nOrganised by the ERAdiate project at the University of Žilina\, the Training School will provide comprehensive information and advice on academic writing and communication\, including how to write and present scientific papers\, how to effectively communicate and maximise the impact of scientific results. \nThe event is open to the research community (Postdocs\, PhD students and researchers). Young researchers in particular will benefit from attending the Training School to develop their competences and knowledge for producing and delivering high-quality scientific publications and presentations. \n\nProgramme overview\n10.00: Opening by Prof. Milan Dado\, ERAdiate Project Coordinator\, Univ. of Žilina (Slovakia) \n10.10: Introduction by Prof. Tatiana Kovacikova\, ERA Chair Holder\, Univ. of Žilina (Slovakia) \n10.20: Vehicular Communications for Platooning by Prof. Alexey Vinel\, Halmstad University (Sweden) \n10.50: IoT pushing a new V2X paradigm for progressing Connected and Automated Driving by Francois Fischer\, ERTICO – ITS Europe (Belgium) \n11.20: An analysis of possible socio-economic effects of a Cooperative\, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) in Europe by Maria Alonso-Raposo\, JRC Ispra (Italy) \n11.30: Panel Discussion  \n13.00: Closing \n\nPresentations\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n The European Commission´s science and knowledge service\n María Alonso Raposo \n\n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n 46 downloads3.35 MB\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Environment perception for Autonomous Driving\n François Fischer \n\n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n 36 downloads4.52 MB

SUMMARY:ERAdiate Lecture Series #4: Smart Cities for People
DESCRIPTION:ERAdiate Lecture Series: Smart Cities for People \n27 November 2018\,10am \nScientific Board Room\, Nová Menza \nRegistration \nABSTRACT \n‘Smart City’ and ‘Smart Mobility’ approaches promise technology-based opportunities to build more efficient\, better connected and more creative cities. Real-time ICT infrastructure and recent technological developments on Big Data\, the Internet-of-Things and Artificial Intelligence bring new opportunities for flexible parking services\, intelligent traffic signalling for buses or cyclists\, dynamic road pricing\, real-time traffic information and management\, multimodal mobility planning and ticketing etc. Realtime analytics are also expected to enhance the accountability in urban service provision and enable enhanced public participation. Overall smart urbanism is emerging at the intersection of visions for the future of urban places\, infrastructures\, new technologies\, entrepreneurship and the governance of cities. Despite positive expectations\, the smart transition brings several socio-technical challenges. What is ‘smart’? Is smart the same as sustainable? Is smart for everyone? Critiques have argued that emphasis on market-led technological solutions risk prioritising growth and the economy while disregarding the social\, the environmental and the political – and in some cases it could lead to technological lock-ins and a corporatisation of city governance. This lecture series will explore from academic and practitioners’ perspectives what a Smart City transition means for people\, and how the Smart City concept can contribute to enhanced quality-of-life. \nThe first presentation\, entitled “Slovak Smart Cities – Opportunity or Fake?”\, will bring a provocative question whether and to what extend is “smart city concept” a realistic approach for Slovak cities. \nThe second presentation has three main goals: to increase awareness of the smart transformation impact in society\, to provide a framework for understanding this transformation that outlines the core issues and possible responses and to provide a couple of recommendations for future based on lessons learnt and past experiences in United Nations University. \nThe third presentation concerning an interesting case of study. Cities around the world are growing rapidly.  In 2050\, 70% of the world’s population will live in cities. Already today big cities face enormous challenges when it comes to handling traffic and at the same time being a sustainable\, attractive and healthy city for people. New technology and big data brings a new perspective on possible solutions in the Smart City agenda. But often cities take a top-down approach to the smart solutions and implement new big systems to solve transport issues. Often the end-user is forgotten in the top-down approach and the true effect on the user behaviour will most likely be small. Therefore\, working with a user-centred design process for shaping future solution is essential to fully understand the user’s needs and scope investments. \n\nProgramme overview\n10.00: Opening by Prof. Tatiana Kovacikova\, ERAchair Holder\, Univ. of Žilina (Slovakia) \n10.10: Introduction by Dr. Yannick Cornet\, ERAdiate Team Member\, Univ. of Žilina (Slovakia) \n10.20:  Slovak Smart Cities\, opportunity or Fake? by Erika Horanská\, Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic \n10.50: Smart Cities: a social perspective by Nuno Vasco Lopes\, United Nations University (Portugal) \n11.20: Smart solutions for sustainable mobility – Examples from Copenhagen by Maria Wass-Danielsen\, UrbanCreators  (Denmark) \n11.50: Panel Discussion  \n13.00: Closing \n\nPresentationsVideo\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Slovak Smart Cities - Opportunity of Fake?\n Erika Horanská \n\n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n 54 downloads2.70 MB\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Smart Cities: a social perspective\n Nuno Vasco Lopes \n\n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n 44 downloads7.46 MB\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Smart Solutions for Sustainable Mobility - Examples from Copenhagen\n Maria Wass-Danielsen \n\n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n 55 downloads8.03 MB

SUMMARY:Success factors of H2020 widening instruments in Slovakia: lessons learnt and future outlook
DESCRIPTION:AbstractProgramRegistrationPractical informationPresentationsPhotoFinal report\nThe aim of the event is to bring together Slovak participants from the various “widening” instruments (ERA Chairs\, Twinning\, Teaming\, COST) to share their experience and knowledge to assess the success factors of participation in H2020. Special focus will be devoted in this context on the creation of synergies between various funding instruments (including structural funds) at national and European level. In addition to the success factors\, the discussion is also expected to highlight common persisting challenges and barriers that should be addressed for achieving greater benefits and impacts from participation in these projects. \nThe lessons learnt from Slovakia will be discussed with participants from other widening countries to provide a European dimension and basis for general recommendations. To achieve a larger impact beyond Slovakia NCPs from the most successful widening countries such as Cyprus and Estonia will be invited to discuss with them the factors that contributed to their success in widening instruments under H2020. \nThe output from this event will be a policy report coordinated by COST and authored by the invited “widening participants” adressed to the EC with recommendations on widening instruments in Horizon Europe. This report will build on the H2020 policy documents and reports for Slovakia\, and will aim at validating whether some of the recommendations for Slovakia\, in particular those specific to widening instruments\, are also relevant for other EC widening countries and should therefore be incorporated in the Horizon Europe framework. \n\n\n \n\n\nOpened here! \n\n\nPractical information \n\n\nMilan Dado \nMickael Pero \nDaniel Straka \nPeter Hošták \nZuzana Lisoňová \nTatiana Kováčiková \nTomislav Vuletic \nMichael Burnard \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Final report\n Final Report from the joint ERAdiate-COST workshop organised in Zilina on 20 May 2019.\n\n Download\n \n \n \n \n \n 528 downloads458.19 KB\n\n\n
