EURegionsWeek Close-to-you – Moving beyond infrastructure: Co-designing inclusive mobility for sustainable regions

October 20 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

This online Local Dialogue addresses the persistent challenge of making urban transport truly inclusive by shifting the focus from technical infrastructure to the people who use the system. Hosted by the Department of International Research Projects (ERAdiate+) at the University of Zilina (UNIZA) as a PIONEER Alliance initiative, with the support of Laurea University of Applied Sciences (LAUREA), the event explores the social, governance, and behavioural dimensions of mobility, areas often underrepresented in mainstream transport research. The session features perspectives from the regional innovation agency INOVIA as well as two real-world case studies on school safety and child-friendly urban mobility: the City of Trnava presents its school street safety pilot on Gorkého Street, while the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava (MIB) presents Mesto pre deti, an initiative creating safer, child-friendly spaces around schools.

Part of the European Week of Regions and Cities  EURegionsWeek Close-to-you programme, the event embraces the motto “Strong regions, strong Europe”, showcasing place-based solutions to tackle transport poverty and improve accessibility for vulnerable groups.

The 90-minute session is divided into two parts:

  • Part 1, Perspectives & Insights, brings together academic and research perspectives from the University of Zilina and Laurea University of Applied Sciences, regional innovation insights from INOVIA, and two case studies on safer, more child-friendly streets presented by the City of Trnava and the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava (MIB).
  • Part 2, Dialogue & Co-Creation, broadens participation further by actively involving students, citizens, speakers and local stakeholders in an interactive co-creation workshop and open debate. Overall, the programme bridges the gap between academic evidence, regional innovation and municipal policy.

No specific technical expertise is required, and everyone’s perspective is welcome. Join us to help ensure that sustainable mobility transitions are equitable, safe and responsive to everyday community needs.

We look forward to hearing your ideas and welcoming you to the dialogue!
