The project Safety IMprovement using near Miss Analysis on Road Crossings (SIMMARC), funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG, with UNIZA as an international partner, successfully started with a kick-off meeting and first design activities on 12 January 2017 in Graz, Austria. The project aims to improve traffic safety on urban road crossings by observing the area 24/7 with cameras and microphones. The data collected is then analyzed to detect not only the (few) accidents but “near miss” accidents. Such information enables traffic planners to put measures in place that improve safety of urban traffic.
